Dr. Susan's Book

thevalueofmoney1THE VALUE OF MONEY
Uncover the Hidden Wisdom of Money

In this unique guide to personal finance, Susan McCarthy draws on her years of experience counseling people about their money to guide readers through an exploration of the intricate connections between their emotional and financial lives. In The Value of Money, she gives readers the tools they need to see past the tumultuous aspect of money to achieve not just greater wealth and financial security but personal insights as well.

Presenting various “money types” she has observed in her work, Susan guides readers to discover what type (or combination of types) they are and how each typically responds to life’s most challenging financial events – taking financial responsibility for the care of an elderly family member, the death of a spouse, retirement – and how to turn around any self-defeating responses to these important life transitions.

In The Value of Money, Susan McCarthy provides a roadmap for using a deep awareness of one’s relationship to money to discover what she calls “The Five Spiritual Lessons Money Can Teach Us.” This wise book outlines a path not just to a richer future financially but spiritually as well.

• Overcome your financial fears
• Discover your unique money type
• Make better choices, achieve greater wealth
• Get richer while you get happier

Read An Excerpt from MORE THAN WEALTH”

Taken from chapter four, entitled “ANGER”

On the stage of money...anger is exceedingly rational. Of course, I know that there are situations in which anger is healthy and warranted, such as at injustice or cruelty. But this is not what financial advisors deal with. What we see is the kind that runs deep in families, that cannot be held back when attention is focused on money. Money can bring this emotion to the fore like nothing else.

Thomas was the husband of a woman who inherited money. His wife, Diane was from a rather wealthy family and he had always found that a difficult thing to deal with. What might have attracted him early on - her money and her ease with financial decision-making – had, apparently, come to deepen within him a general resentment he had of her and of others. I first met them when she was to be receiving an inheritance and had to make a number of decisions about investing the money. One of our meetings – my first and last one with Thomas – was memorable. more
